Happy Old School Friday, everyone! This week’s theme is My Theme Song. Ok, this is the truth. Often, when I wake up in the morning (er, afternoon) and I’m faced with the day’s travails, I’ll start to feel down, like I’m just not up to the tasks at hand. I’m sure this is something most folks who read here can relate to. Here’s what I use to get myself out of that mindset: “Can I Kick It?,” by A Tribe Called Quest.
That’s all, folks. Happy OSF Y’all! Thanks for playing, and as always, much love to all the other OSF participants.

I needed a laugh, and Elon James White brought the funny.
May you also laugh. Enjoy.
“Soulja Boy is a walking advertisement for white supremacy groups.”
At first, that cracked me up. Then, I thought about it for a minute and realized how true it is. I then cried.
Here I am, once again slipping in an Old School Friday post at the last minute. So today’s theme is If I Were a Boy/Girl. I have no idea where to go with this one, truth be told. So I’m going to take a pass and just post some general old school goodness.
Ok, so this technically isn’t old school, but it’s got that old school 80’s vibe going on, and I’m digging it. I’m currently on the hunt for more of this (props to Amanda and Samhita for the heads up).

Now, back to the real 80s. Y’all remember EPMD, right? Only two of the best MCs to ever touch a mic. Well, if you tired, then go take a nap…
EPMD – “You Gots to Chill”
I’ve been looking for a reason to post this one for a while. Mc Lyte simply owns on this one. Hit the road Sam…
MC Lyte – “Paper Thin”
Happy OSF Y’all! Thanks for playing, and as always, much love to all the other OSF participants.

Happy Old School Friday, folks. This weeks theme is Something Old, Something New. It’s funny that this is the theme for this week, because I was just complaining yesterday with BlackAmazon over on Facebook about Scarlet Johannson’s gawd awful cover of Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.” Really, unless you are as brilliant, if not more brilliant, than the artist whose work you seek to cover (or you’re covering something that was mediocre to crap to begin with), you need to just leave it alone. Some things are sacred.
I was reminded of this song on this thread over at Jack and Jill Politics. So good. It’s a remix, as it were, of Gill Scot-Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” and takes on misogynistic lyrics in Hip Hop. I’m kinda pissed now, though. I just spent half an hour digging through my records looking for this 12-inch and I can’t find it. There’s some really frigging good mixes of this song with DJ Vadim that I wanted to listen too. I can’t imagine for the life of me that I would sell this 12-inch, so were’d it go? Regardless, I had to share. Enjoy.
