So, of course, this is all the reason you need to go around attacking black folks.

For those who still can’t grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help.

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you’ll “kick their fuckin’ ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

Upon seeing this picture posted all over the internets the last few days (both by people looking to get their rocks off and people using slut-shaming as an argument against her, as if her political views aren’t enough), I knew it had to be a fake. The odd, super-long neck is enough to give it away. So, I went to the always trusty Snopes (Snopes is your friend, people!) to find out the real deal. Of course, it’s fake. I got a quotation of the day out of it to boot:

It’s an unfortunate aspect of modern life that just about any woman who enters the public sphere at a national level is presumed to have posed for risqué photographs (anything from cheesecake shots to nude pictures) at some point in her past, and that (whether she has or not) examples of such photos will inevitably be fabricated and put on public display.

And by “unfortunate,” I assume they mean “completely fucked up.”

Well, the first (of many?) possible assassination plots against Barack Obama during the convention is being investigated by the Colorado Police and the FBI. Get used to it. We’ll be hearing this news a lot over the next four years.

Now, regardless of how you you feel about Sen. Obama’s politics, you know this is true:

We can disagree about the specifics of the Obama platform (and I got a lotta disagreements there), but damn, Obama is a target. And even when he’s not a target, he’s a target. And when he is a target, he’s a “with extreme prejudice” target. And even if he’s not a target, the media is invested in making him out to be a target. So, no mater how you wanna play it, Obama needs to watch his back.
