Dear Annonymous Donor

I’m going to assume, since the email I received informing me of your donation in my honor to a really cool project at donorschoose.org referenced the 2008 Bloggers Challenge, that you are aware of my blog and may actually see this.

On behalf of the kids, I say, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Best wishes always,

Kevin

Dear Foolish Blackness Deniers,

Seriously? Why is it that so many of you are going out of your way to try and prove that Barack Obama isn’t really black? What’s at stake for you here? I know. I know. We’re all post-racial and shit these days and it makes you feel all enlightened and shit to say bi-racial, but for reals; look at the man. He’s black.

Dear DL Hughley

Shut up! STFU! You are not funny. You are not politically insightful. And don’t think I forgot that “b…b…but…they ARE ugly, nappy headed hoes” shtick you pulled on Jay Leno’s show. So, I will say that you ARE a sexist asshole.

P.S. to CNN: What the hell where you thinking?

With warmest regards,

Kevin

Dear Annoying Ass Facebook.

It’s true. My long-time girlfriend and I have recently broken up. It’s true that I’m not exactly a spring chicken anymore by today’s messed up standards of youth and beauty. It’s also true that I have a lot of friends that aren’t black, as am I. This does not mean, however, that I wish to be bombarded, literally ten seconds after I change my status to “single,” with ads for “Hot 30-Plus Singles” and “Interracial Dating.” Of course, I’m not opposed to either. I am 30-plus, and it was an interracial relationship; but for reals, might it ever occur to you and your advertisers that maybe, just maybe, I’m in a period of trying to come to terms with the breakup itself, and I’m not trying to rush out and find that “single mature woman” that you oh so want me to meet right now.

I really just find it annoying. It’s especially annoying that of all the things that can be parsed from my profile, that is what you focus on. You could be selling me CDs, for instance, ’cause I’m a music freak, and I’d probably be more willing to follow a link to potentially good music right now.

And while I’m at it. Why are all of your depictions of interracial relationships between white women and black men? Did I give you that information at some point? Last I checked, interracial relationships were more diverse than that.

I’m just saying.

And yes, that letter to Google Adsense is coming with the quickness. I’m not singling you out.

Dear Open Source Developers,

You know, I go out of my way to support Open source projects. Even when I’m using Windows, I’m generally using an Open Source program to get done what I need to get done. But really, when you go about naming otherwise excellent programs Spaz or GIMP…well, it turns me off. It’s that whole language matters thing. And yes. It’s true. I do still use GIMP; but should I really have to cringe every time I open up a program to do something as simple as crop an image? And yes. I realize that GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program, but still; you couldn’t come up with something a little less…oh, I don’t know…totally friggin’ offensive to disabled people? Why try to be clever at the expense of other people’s lives? It’s so unnecessary.

So, I kindly ask that from here on out, all of you Open Source developers stop and think for a minute before you go about naming your programs names like Spaz or GIMP because the Open Source philosophy really isn’t attainable when you are using language that otherizes people.

I’m just saying.

Dear Amy Winehouse,

Class is in session.

Sincerely,

Kevin

Dear Random People

Dear random people who don’t read here, but happened to follow a link from one of several generous fellow bloggers whom I adore,

We don’t play that “who has it worst” bullshit game here. Don’t bring that nonsense here. Ever. Take it somewhere else. There are several blog communities out there that delight in this sort of thing. This is not one of them. I’m not interested in entertaining questions of whether racism is worse than sexism or sexism is worse than classism or classism is really truly the worstest of them all. If you’re asking those types of questions or trying to answer those types of questions, you are at the wrong blog. Disagree with me, please. Call me on my shit, please. I welcome the opportunity to grow and learn. I don’t, however, see the need to try and trump one form of oppression with another. Sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, transphobia, disablism (I can go on and on) are all treated with equal seriousness here.

Get it? Got it? Good.
