Y’know, growing up, my grandmoms, whenever I started sticking my nose into business that wasn’t mine, would look at me and say “noneya!” Now, I’m not gonna lie. If a certain pregnant teenager had been the daughter of a certain black presidential candidate, all these folks talking about “respect the family” wouldn’t be saying the same thing. They’d be talking about how black folks don’t know how to raise kids and welfare moms and the crisis of teen pregnancy. The hypocrisy angers me because I know that folks, both on the left and right, Democrat and Republican, conservative and liberal, wouldn’t be stepping to the plate for a person of color that was a teenager, unwed, and pregnant–like they are now. That said, I’m gonna leave my commentary on all that with this:
The Palin’s personal business is noneya.
Now I’m done.

The pregnancy of Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is our business only to the extent that Sarah Palin is a hardcore rightwinger intent on removing sex education in public schools and funding “abstinence-only” policies. It obviously has not worked out in her own family, yet she (and the 2008 Republican Party platform) want to interfere in our lives and perpetuate ignorance. The fact that the statement from her family regarding Bristol’s pregnancy is that they are proud that Bristol “made the decision to have the baby” implies choice. Sarah Palin does not think “choice” is an option for others. That makes it our business.
The hypocrisy angers me because I know that folks, both on the left and right, Democrat and Republican, conservative and liberal, wouldn’t be stepping to the plate for a person of color that was a teenager,
I certainly agree with this statement. The republican party has a history of attacking unwed woc that become pregnant. Does anyone remember Regan and his welfare queens living high on the hog commentary?
Here is thing about this whole baby gate scandal, they may be engaging in a small amount of slut shaming but in the end Bristol will be forgiven because she will have done what white women were meant to do – breed. Having a baby to advance the race is what certain groups are all about whether they openly admit it or not.
Thank you, Kevin!!

I’m with the top commenter. When someone promotes a policy or ideology which could effect a nation of people, we the people have a right to see how it did or did not work for her own family. The right to question her support of the policy which many feel is detrimental and with ramifications for those who do not have a family to support them. Not even going into taking away choice here.
We don’t have the right to put her daughter in the spotlight.
We do have the right and responsibility to question her. I imagine it would be hard for her, when asked “well what of the women who gets pregnant by mistake with no family, and no money, and no chance of getting an education and moving up the socioeconomic ladder” to tell the truth which is she just doesn’t really give a shit – but we need to hear her say it because it is the truth a truth that she will not be able to talk her way around.
