How did I not know about this? Today is Vinyl Record Day. Much love to Petulant at Shakesville for the heads up. Those that know me personally know that I buy about 80% of my music on vinyl. Still. I love the convenience of MP3s and buy a lot of music on that format as well, but if I’m going to go to a record store and actually purchase an album, I’m going to be looking for vinyl. As much as I’m a foe of the record industry as it currently operates, they should love me because I’m often going out and buying the MP3 version of an album to listen to on my computer or phone and the LP as well. I love records. And no, I don’t care how much space they take up.

Funny thing is that just yesterday, I was Twittering about DJ’s with HustleKnocker. Since I said it on Twitter I might as well say it here. If you use CDs, MP3s, or any other digital media to perform music mixes for a crowd, YOU ARE NOT A DJ! Just no. And if you’re using iPods, you really need to get out. DJs play with records. Period. No skills that a DJ playing with records has can be replicated with digital media. Y’all need to come up with some other term to describe yourselves because DJs you are not. You simply cannot do anything as bad ass as this:
Or this:

You simply cannot do anything as bad ass as this
YOU’RE bad ass, Kevin!
You’re right, I don’t consider those ‘laptop’ DJs as real DJs, no matter how popular they are.
