Stupidest Ever Quotation of the Day

Southern Christian Leadership Conference President, Charles Steele Jr.:

“Why are they attacking Michelle Obama, first lady Michelle Obama, and not really attacking, to that degree, her husband?” Steele asked. “Because he has no slave blood in him. He does not have any slave blood in him, but Michelle does.”

I can barely even comment on this one it’s so mind-bogglingly stupid, but let me see if I get this right:

Barack Obama isn’t Black enough; Michelle Obama is too Black; and none of the attacks on Michelle Obama apparently have anything to do with her being a Black woman.

I didn’t think it was possible to cram so much stupid into two sentences.

I think that you got the point exactly. He refused to consider how gender may impact the way that Michelle is treated by the media. We black women and men share the same color however gender often forces us to deal with different stereotypes.

Hi Renee! Coincidently, I just discovered your blog today (although I swear I had found you before and just forgot to bookmark you), from following a link either at Ilyka’s or Joan Kelly’s (can’t remember, now). Thanks for stopping by!

What’s mind boggling to me is that Steele seems to be going out of his way to avoid admitting that gender has anything to do with Michelle’s treatment. He can’t really believe that people base racist attacks on whether the subject is the descendant of slaves. That’s just ludicrous.

I actually have been popping in here for awhile this is just the first time that I have commented. I like your blog a lot.
I think that men like Steele really and truly consider gender to be irrelevant. To them race is the number one issue. I would even go as far as to say race is even further limited to how it effects men of a similar class to him. Men like him believe that the black community consists of one monolithic identity and what he does not realize is that silences the concerns of many.

No one knows how stupid you really are until you open your mouth.

This is what I thought when I read Steele’s comments.

Pleasecome to my blog:http://www.ladydeborah.blogspot.com (My Brown Eyed View) and check out the post Much Obliged! There is something I want you to read.

    I couldn’t agree more.
