And that whole Seal Press thing? I’d like to thank the representatives of Seal Press for providing a perfect example of what entitled white privilege looks like. You may not realize it, but you’ve made my job much easier.

And as long as I’m in a bad mood, might I also add that I’m sick and tired of Obama supporters and Cllinton supporters–the hardcore partisan ones at least. You’ve all managed to turn the Oppression Olympics into the Oppression Wars. Nice that. If this is progressivism, I think I’ll go hang elsewhere.

Along with Amanda’s posts on the Feministe thread, there are no shortage of clear illustrations.

The MSM/blogs are 99 to 1 Obama/race so pro-Clinton bloggers just counterbalance the bias. Blogs were originally about countering the MSM.

I have no problem with pro-Clinton or pro-Obama bloggers as long as they’re being honest and fair. I do have a problem with all the nastiness and vitriol I’ve read.

Damn Angry Kevin, this is pretty much the worst news I have heard about the blogosphere which will be very much less of a place without BFPs voice.

I hear you Sokari. This is a huge loss to the blogosphere. First Nubian, now BFP?

    Too sad for words.

The comments on this are strewn about the internets. It’s amazing/unfortunate that Amanda seems so unwilling to apologize and acknowledge that she was wrong.

It’s almost like the part of the brain that controls apologies and intellectual citations has been lobotomized from a lot of white folks. Scratch that, white folks (and it took me a long time to learn this, after all, I have been socialized with the same junk) can apologize and cite material as long as it is coming from other white folks. This entire situation reeks of racism and white privilege. So shitty.

There is one small good thing.
It is harder to get away with this behavior than it used to be.
Not much of a good thing, but a good thing nonetheless.

I wrote a post a while back positing that racism is a mental illness. I have read hundreds of posts on several different blogs on this latest controversy and can come to no other conclusion: white folks are fucking crazy.

The spiritually and morally imbecillic comments and responses that I’ve seen, most impressively, Ms. Marcotte’s, defending her honor and career; wrapping herself in the cloak of victimhood warding off the poisoned arrows of jealous cannibals…

This rabid Miss Anne, this literary/journalistic Elvis…is cuckoo for cocoa puffs and anyone trying to get through to her is equally crazed. I don’t see how we - meaning people of color - in the face of the encircled, fortified wagons strung up to repel black and brown truth and abuse - by our muthafucking FRIENDS - can have any part in a movement that would have members like Amanda Marcotte and her ilk?!

With allies like these, who needs the Klan?!

Who gives a shit about her precious career, built as it is on the work and words of anonymous negresses and latina handmaidens whose job is to provide her grist fo’ the white mill?!

Marcotte shouldn’t have a career (if the quality and breadth of her tortured thinking exhibited across the World White Web on this issue is any indication) and wouldn’t have one if she were a woman or man of color, of any class.

There but for the grace of brown skin go I!

I say in all sincerity: the only thing that will save us is segregation today, tomorrow, forever, if we’re talking about building a movement. The energy that’s been expended to “convince” this jive ass white woman of where she went wrong should have been spent on women of color. “Who feels it knows it Lord,” indeed.

What makes us feel obligated to spoonfeed ignorant white women who benefit from the system of oppression that “landed on US like Plymouth Rock,” when we have less internal solidarity as black/brown people than we had 40 years ago?!

Let’s not waste another second on the enemy; let’s build our own webzines, publishing houses, movie studios and theaters, schools, one brick at a time. Its time better spent than this exercise.
