Comments on: Linux Chess?

Kevin, I don’t use Linux but I’ve used the shareware chess program Crafty. Some folks on the Free Internet Chess Server say Crafty is a decent choice for Linux. (I haven’t compiled it or anything, though, just got some small exe versions bundled with other stuff.)

I’ve been playing pretty obsessively online lately, at the Free Internet Chess Server. I’d be happy to have a game sometime if you wanna. (I’m not very good is the only problem.)

Try gnuchess and xboard (you need both) for a fairly strong game with 2D style icon representation of the chess board (like in the newspaper).

You get 3D graphics and a learning engine (and support for massively parallel CPU networks if you ‘ve got one).
