Thoughts on New Hampshire at 11:00pm EST

I really thought that Edwards would win New Hampshire. I was soooo wrong. It looks like Clinton has won.

In fact, I expected Edwards to eventually win the nomination, with him maybe picking Obama as his running mate. Looks like I may have been wrong about that as well, although it’s still too early to say for sure.

I definitely didn’t think that Clinton would win New Hampshire.

I gotta say, even though I can’t see myself voting for her myself, after seeing the blatant sexism thrown at her after getting a tad teary-eyed (Stop it! She wasn’t even really crying! She just got a little weepy. Even if it was a ploy, folks played into it in a sexist way), I’m glad that Hillary Clinton made a come-back in New Hampshire.

And now, there are 48 more moves in this little game of ours…

Tell me something good...

  1. I hate to further complicate your political processing, Kevin, but Hillary’s eyes welling up was probably a planned strategy that worked (even the “backlash” helped her campaign as evidenced by your positive response to her win, not because she’s the best one for the job but because she “deserved” a warm fuzzy for being attacked by sexists). She’s a pro — and I’m not criticizing her for using whatever technique works (they all do it) — but I was a little disappointed to see that piece of emotional drama parlayed into a win in New Hampshire. Personally, I’d like to see Obama and Kucinich paired up. I think they could take it. The only reason people haven’t jumped on the Kucinich bandwagon is because they don’t think he’s viable. If Obama got the nomination for President and tapped Kucinich for his VP, I think voters would pour out of the woodwork all over the U.S. Just my bead on it.

  2. Changeseeker – I’m well aware that Hillary’s eye-welling incident may have been a ploy on her part. It doesn’t matter to me. The responses were sexist and if the sexists see that sexism might not work in their favor, all the better.

And I say the same for Hillary’s recent race-baiting. If her remarks cause anti-racists to say “fuck it, I’m not voting for her,” and she loses some primaries, good!

That’s what’s so frustrating to me about this election. I can’t let this shit slide. I don’t support Clinton or Obama (I’ll be voting for a black woman, as of today, although that may change come election time), yet, I end up defending both of them against blatantly sexist and racist bullshit. And of course, every time I do so, it looks like I’m supporting them, when really I’m just saying enough of the sexist and racist bullshit.
