A young black woman who had gone missing in Chicago, Nailah Franklin, was found Thursday, naked, partially buried, and badly decomposed.
She was 28 years old. Barely into the prime of her life.
My condolences go out to her family and friends.
But this pisses me off to no end:
Police said Franklin told them a week prior to being reported missing that a man she briefly dated had been threatening her life, and she filed a police report. Police have talked to the man, who a law enforcement source said came with an attorney. But they have not named him as a suspect in her disappearance.
WTF?
I’m no expert on the law, but some things seem so obvious to me that I’m left wondering what good the damn law is in the first place.

Oh my fucking god. I have made it part of my life’s work at this point to learn and write about the interconnected nature of violence, etc. and still sometimes the amount of complicity in violence against women that you see with the cops shocks me.
Uhg.
In 1996, when I called the cops to report his beating me up, they quietly said, “It is our policy not to get involved with domestic disputes”.
I’ll have to say that it seems little has changed. I’m still appalled at the attitude of law enforcement when it comes to violence against women. It’s a effin shame.
